IRDAI & Department of Posts Disclaimer

Regulatory position
Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) are life-insurance schemes owned and administered directly by the Department of Posts (DoP), Government of India, under a special statutory framework dating back to 1884. They are therefore not regulated by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), which regulates private and public insurers under the Insurance Act, 1938.
PLI and RPLI plans, bonus rates, sum-assured caps and eligibility rules are notified from time to time by the Department of Posts through official circulars published on indiapost.gov.in.
What this means for you
- Complaints and grievances follow the DoP grievance mechanism (via pgportal.gov.in) and, where applicable, consumer forums under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
- The IRDAI Bima Bharosa / IGMS complaint route is not directly applicable to PLI/RPLI.
- PLI/RPLI policies come with a sovereign guarantee of the Government of India — payouts do not depend on the solvency margin of a private company.
About this advisor network
This website is operated by an authorised network of certified PLI and RPLI advisors. Members of the network hold the “Direct Agent” or equivalent authorisation issued by the Department of Posts, empanelled under the relevant DoP circular. Individual advisor identity numbers can be verified with the assigned advisor on request.
We do not hold an IRDAI corporate-agent license because PLI/RPLI is outside IRDAI’s remit. Our advisors are also not insurance brokers under the IRDAI (Insurance Brokers) Regulations, 2018.
